Canada’s Building Trades Unions welcomes Friday’s announcement of new funding streams by the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Language Randy Boissonnault under the new Sustainable Jobs Training Fund, and the opening of calls for proposals to support tens of thousands of workers across the country with innovative projects that will help them train for the skills they’ll need for the future low-carbon economy.
“It’s exciting to see tangible calls for proposals from innovative organizations who ready to take up the challenge of training the low-carbon workforce of the future,” says Sean Strickland, Executive Director of Canada’s Building Trades Unions, “We’re eagerly anticipating the opening of the Sustainable Jobs stream under the Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy’s Union Training and Innovation Program. These programs will help workers gain the skills they need to succeed in securing well-paying, green jobs in the years ahead.”

Programs and funding streams like the one announced last week help our partners secure the funding they need for workforce development, ensuring there’s the workers available to meet the demands of the emerging green economy.
“The governments ongoing commitment to training the green workforce of the future is especially important,” says Strickland, “to seize the opportunity in the green economy of the future, we need the trained labour force available to meet demand, and these funding streams help ensure we have it.”
