CANADA’S BUILDING TRADES UNIONS CALL FOR ALL PARTIES TO SUPPORT SKILLED TRADES WORKERS

With the call of the 44th election, Canada’s Building Trades Unions, are focused on advocating for their members on three key areas: Support for Canadians traveling for work, building Canada’s green future and creating a stronger workforce.

“Canada’s Building Trades Unions have continued to go to work, each and every day throughout this pandemic. As we look towards a recovering economy, that will be uneven across Canada, we need support for skilled trades workers to travel; we need to support energy workers as our economy transitions to Net Zero and we need progressive leadership at the Federal Level that will invest in building Canada’s skilled trades workforce,” said Sean Strickland, Executive Director, Canada’s Building Trades Unions. “CBTU is ready to work with the next government and build a stronger Canada. Let’s get to work.”

Canada’s Building Trades Unions are calling for support for:

Supporting Canadians Traveling for Work –implementing a skilled trades workforce mobility tax deduction

Building Canada’s Green Future –ensuring construction workers in the energy sector are not left behind in the transition to a greener economy; and investing in green energy infrastructure.

Creating a Stronger Workforce –improving government programs to better assist workers including apprentices and underrepresented groups through applying community benefits agreements on federal procured infrastructure projects; supporting apprentices; reforming Employment Insurance.
