Supporting Women In The Skilled Trades
In Canada, women represent only 4% of the construction trades workforce – a number that’s disproportionately low. While other traditionally male-dominated professions have made progress, like the Military and Law Enforcement seeing participation rates rise to more than 15%, construction remains stubbornly low. Canada’s Building Trades Unions is providing programs and supports for women entering the trades and resources for union leaders on how to better recruit and retain women in the construction sector.

Supporting Indigenous Peoples and Reconciliation
From settlements built before European contact using traditional knowledge and techniques to modern wonders like the Empire State Building and the Toronto Skydome built by legendary Iroquoian Ironworkers, our country is not only founded on the traditional territories of Indigenous peoples, our cities and infrastructure have been built by them. Canada’s Building Trades Unions is committed to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and fostering positive relationships with our Indigenous members and their communities.

Working Towards Safe and Respectful Workplaces
Canada’s Building Trades Unions’ core mission is to improve working conditions, and that includes ensuring a safe and respectful work environment, free of harassment, discrimination, or violence. Every worker has the right to dignity and respect, and Canada’s Building Trades Unions is constantly working to improve the culture of safety and respect on job sites across the country. It’s not only the right thing to do, it’s the law. Our programs are designed to address harassment, discrimination, and workplace violence.
