BRICK MASON

Brick masons lay brick, concrete block, stone, structural tile, precast panels and other similar materials to build or repair walls, patios, walkways, chimneys, fireplaces and other elements in commercial and residential buildings. In the industrial construction sector, brick masons line or re-line furnaces, boilers, chimneys and smokestacks. Brick masons also restore, clean and paint existing brick structures.

In general, bricklayers:

  • read and interpret building plans, and calculate materials needed
  • measure and plan brick patterns and apply plumb lines to ensure level layers
  • cut bricks to fit as required
  • spread mortar, lay bricks and remove excess mortar
