Building a Stronger Canada – the 2019 CBTU Annual Conference

Feb 2, 2019

The men and women of the Building Trades have put their tools to work over Canada’s storied history, to build our country into what it is today. This year’s conference theme: Building a Stronger Canada, will focus on the challenges we face this year and strategize ways to better our organization and move forward.

We need to build on the relationships we’ve created with political parties of all stripes. We need to build a strategic plan to protect the next generation of workers from the legacy of asbestos use. We need to build on the policies created around cannabis use, discuss pain management and how it is affecting our members. We need to build on the work being done to stop the opioid crisis where construction workers are disproportionately affected. We need to build Canada’s energy infrastructure, and have a frank discussion on how we can best get this done. We’re going to build off the success the US has seen in their Capital Strategies program to determine how we can leverage our pension funds and create job opportunities for our members.

We need to continue the work we’ve been doing, and that is to Build a Stronger Canada.

The 2019 Canada’s Building Trades Unions Legislative Conference takes place April 28, 2019 – May 1, 2019. We will be holding a Day of Mourning Ceremony at Major’s Hill Park at 11:00 AM on Sunday, April 28 and encourage all who can come in early, to attend.

Lobbying has always been an important activity of our Conference. However, with the dynamic agenda, and impending election, we will be holding a National CBTU Lobby Week, June 24-28, 2019. at various locations across Canada, information to follow.
