The Conference topic for this year is much more than just a slogan; people who are trying to sell you something hope that their slogan is catchy enough that you will think of them the next time you go to purchase something. This year’s Conference isn’t trying to sell you anything — what we are trying get across is the enormous contribution that our members, our partner contractors and fair owners make in our communities. This contribution goes beyond the incredible projects that we bring in safely and on budget. It extends to the training we provide, the supports that we give to the apprenticeship and upgrading of tradespersons, the social safety net we purchase from our wage packages for pension and welfare benefits, the support we give to enumerable community activities and charities, the volunteer hours our members spending coaching and teaching young people and in the support we give to the safety system in determining codes, standards and safe practices. This just scrapes the surface. Who do we work together with virtually everyone, who in Canada is touched by what we do, absolutely everyone! We need to celebrate the value of working together to build a stronger, safer, healthier and happier Canada!!
As in the past we continue to encourage each Local Union who sends a delegate to also register another member of that Local to attend and see what the Building Trades do for them. This member can be an up and coming apprentice, or journeyperson who demonstrates leadership on site. We strongly encourage you to bring a rank and file member, (at a reduced registration cost for apprentices), so that they can see exactly what Canada’s Building Trades do for them.
